Knitting with Responsible Care

Team Sasol visited Nanhua No 2 Middle School, Nanjing, China to hand out winter gifts of hand-knitted scarves and hats made by Team Sasol China colleagues, as well as outsourced eye-protection lamps.

Nanjing Nanhua No 2 Middle School was founded in 1974 and is a public junior high school, with around 1000 students.  The school has been awarded Provincial Model Middle School, Nanjing Sunshine Sports School, Nanjing Digital Campus Model School, and other honorary titles.

Expressing our core values – be safe, caring, inclusive, accountable and resilient, we proactively practiced our commitment to responsible care.  As a leading international chemical and energy company, we target sustainable green development and caring for the neighborhood communities.

In 2020, Sasol China signed a cooperation agreement with Nanhua No 2 Middle School, becoming one of the first companies in Nanjing New Materials Science and Technology Park (former Nanjing Chemical Industry Park), to sign the Responsible Care Statement.

The gifts for the students could be traced back to a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) knitting activity held by Sasol China on Thanksgiving Day, 25 November 2021.  26 employees participated in the activity, among them there were beginners as well as skilled knitters.  They helped each other and spared some time off work to knit scarves, hats and gloves for 3 weeks.

At the donation ceremony on 28 December 2021, Team Sasol representatives handed over the table lamps and knitted gifts to every student. The Vice President of the school expressed their appreciation and gratitude to Sasol for practicing its responsible care initiatives. Chen Jinhu, Chairman of Sasol China Union, said that Sasol always keeps its core values in mind and carries on its corporate social responsibility.

During the exchange between the school and Sasol China, both sides expressed their willingness to continue cooperation further in conveying green chemical concepts and practicing safety and environmental protection actions.
