On Thursday, 4th June, Sasol handed over a renewed ferryboat to the Government and communities of Inhambane and Maxixe.
“Baia de Inhambane” is a Transmarítima vessel that was damaged by cyclone Dineo in 2017. Today it is back to operation after benefiting from a deep restoration that turned it into an almost new state, with guaranteed durable and safe navigation.
The hand over ceremony was led by the Governor of Inhambane, Mr. Daniel Chapo who expressed words of thanks for Sasol’s partnership in community development. Speaking to the community at the event, Daniel Chapo said that “the recommissioning of this fully rehabilitated vessel will facilitate the transport of people and goods between the two cities and other districts with an acceptable comfort”
In representation of the community, Mr. Armando Carlos, a community member, said “this rehabilitated boat is really comfortable such that will make us forget that we are on the water because it has plasma TVs and a lot more”
With a capacity to accommodate 96 people per trip between Inhambane and Maxixe, the return of “Baia de Inhambane” into operation represents a significant step towards a safe travel for thousands of commuters in the municipalities of Inhambane and Maxixe.
The rehabilitation was carried out within the scope of a Memorandum of Understanding signed between Sasol as the financing entity and Transmaritima, the owner of the ferryboat, as part of Sasol’s social investment initiatives.
Ovidio Rodolfo, Sasol’s Managing Director in Mozambique said that “we are here to witness the formal delivery of the rehabilitated ferryboat to Transmarítima but, above all, to the population of Inhambane Province, its ultimate beneficiary, because we believe that the partnership between Sasol, the government and the community will help to overcome the damage caused by Cyclone Dineo”. This significant assistance along with the handover of a rehabilitated Inhambane Pier in 2018, also with Sasol funds, will contribute significantly to the improvement of safety for students, teachers and other workers who commute everyday between the two cities.
A SASOL ENTREGA EMBARCAÇÃO REABILITADA ÀS COMUNIDADES DE INHAMBANE
Na quinta-feira, 4 de Junho, a Sasol entregou ao governo e às comunidades de Inhambane e Maxixe, uma embarcação reabilitada e renovada.
“Baia de Inhambane” é uma embarcação Transmarítima que foi danificada pelo ciclone Dineo em 2017. Hoje está de volta a operação após beneficiar-se de uma profunda restauração que a transformou num estado quase novo, com garantia de navegação durável e segura.
A cerimónia de entrega foi liderada pelo governador de Inhambane, Daniel Chapo, que agradeceu a parceria da Sasol no desenvolvimento da comunidade. Falando à comunidade no evento, Daniel Chapo disse que “a entrada em funcionamento desta embarcação totalmente reabilitada facilitará o transporte de pessoas e bens entre as duas cidades e outros distritos com um conforto aceitável“.
Em representação da comunidade, o Sr. Armando Carlos, um membro da comunidade, disse que “este barco reabilitado é realmente confortável, o que nos fará esquecer que estamos na água porque possui TVs de plasma e muito mais“
Com capacidade para acomodar 96 pessoas por viagem entre Inhambane e Maxixe, o retorno da Baia de Inhambane em operação representa um passo significativo e garantia de viagem segura para milhares de passageiros nos municípios de Inhambane e Maxixe.
A reabilitação foi realizada com base num memorando de entendimento assinado entre a Sasol como entidade financiadora e a Transmaritima, proprietária da embarcação, como parte das iniciativas de investimento social da Sasol.
Ovidio Rodolfo, Director Geral da Sasol em Moçambique, disse que “estamos aqui para testemunhar a entrega formal da embarcação reabilitada à Transmarítima, mas, principalmente, à população da província de Inhambane, seu beneficiário final, porque acreditamos que a parceria entre a Sasol, o governo e a comunidade ajudarão a superar os danos causados pelo ciclone Dineo ”. Esta assistência significativa, juntamente com a entrega da ponte-cais de Inhambane reabilitada em 2018, também com fundos da Sasol, contribuirá significativamente para a melhoria da segurança de estudantes, professores e outros trabalhadores que se deslocam diariamente entre as duas cidades.
