On a bitterly cold and windy morning, Thursday 6 June 2024, Sasol Ekandustria donated fleecy blankets to five Tshwane Region 7 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that render support to senior citizens in the area.
The organisations, being Ekangala senior citizens, Thokozani aged group, Strong elders B Group, Uthando care project and the Ekangala Leth’ Okhuhle organization, take care of the elderly by providing various programmes that contribute to these vulnerable members in the community being well taken care of.
Handing over the blankets, Jullecsia Saul, Sasol Manager Social Impact said “Sasol cares about the elderly in the Tshwane Region 7 community and would like to ensure that they are kept warm this winter as they wrap themselves in these blankets”. Donating blankets to the NGOs through Sasol’s Winter Warm Drive is contributing to not only keeping some of the most vulnerable in our community warm, but also a little safer from the perils associated with winter such as colds, flu and even falling which can have devastating effects on the elderly, she said.
Representatives from the benefitting organisations thanked Sasol for initiatives such as the donation of blankets that positively impact the lives of the vulnerable in Tshwane Region 7.
It is important to Sasol to be a catalyst for social change. One of the ways to achieve this is to work with organisations such as NGOs to address the specific needs in communities. This grants Sasol and the organisations the opportunity to bring about positive change to the benefit of the community.
The Sasol Winter Warm drive forms part of Sasol’s social impact programmes that work to create a positive and measurable socio-economic impact, responding to key societal challenges in the communities where Sasol operates. The company’s social investment approach is underpinned by focus areas that include quality education, the Sasol Bridge to Work Skills programmes, environment, health and service infrastructure and Sasol For Good that incorporates skilled volunteering and employee giving, NGO capacity building, community support and philanthropy as well as community development.
