Team Sasol brought its Mandela Month activities to a meaningful close with the handover of a R1 million donation to the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital on Monday, 3 August 2026. The donation forms part of Sasol’s commitment to honouring former South African President Nelson Mandela’s legacy through purposeful action, compassion and lasting social impact.
The Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital provides critical tertiary and quaternary healthcare to children with complex and serious medical conditions from across South Africa and the African continent, while supporting families through compassionate, child-centred care.
For Sasol, the donation reflects a long-standing relationship with the hospital and builds on the strong support it continues to receive from Sasol employees through the Sasol for Good payroll giving programme.
The event was attended by Sasol leaders including Thabile Makgala, Executive Vice President: People, SHE, Risk and Corporate Affairs, and Grace Nndwammbi, Senior Vice President: Corporate Affairs.
Speaking at the handover, Thabile Makgala said the donation was a reflection of Sasol’s belief in the power of collective care and service.
“Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital represents hope, healing and the possibility of a better future for children and their families. Through this donation, we are proud to support the remarkable work being done here every day. More importantly, we are reminded that meaningful impact is created when people come together with compassion, purpose and a shared commitment to improving lives.”
The donation was one of the final activities in Sasol’s Mandela Month 2026 campaign, which mobilised more than 1 500 employees across eight Sasol office sites, together with 28 retail partners across eight provinces. Throughout July, teams packed and distributed more than 10 000 care packs to children across more than 35 hospitals, healthcare facilities, oncology units and care organisations.
The campaign also included 10 off-site volunteering initiatives in Sasol’s local communities, supporting more than 500 children through activities such as infrastructure repairs, playground upgrades and support for basic educational needs.
As part of the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital handover event, Sasol colleagues also presented 100 care packs to children receiving treatment at the hospital. The care packs were intended to offer comfort and encouragement, and to carry a message of care from the many Sasol employees who participated in the Mandela Month campaign.
Grace Nndwammbi said the campaign showed what can be achieved when employees, leaders, retail partners and community organisations unite around a shared purpose.

This year, Sasol employees and partners made their mark in a deeply meaningful way, reaching thousands of children and supporting organisations that provide care, comfort and hope. The handover to Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital is a fitting close to a month of service and a reaffirmation of our commitment to building stronger, more compassionate communities.”
The R1 million contribution will support Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital in continuing to provide specialised, life-saving healthcare to children with complex medical conditions, while strengthening its capacity to deliver world-class, child-centred care.
