On June 13, our apprentices, along with students from Schleusen-Gemeinschaftsschule Brunsbüttel and Gemeinschaftsschule am Hamberg in Burg, traveled to the IdeenExpo fair in Hanover. Nearly 100 people set off at 7:00 AM in two buses, eagerly anticipating the event.
The IdeenExpo is Germany’s largest youth event for science and technology. Here, young people can experience exciting exhibits, try fascinating experiments, and get inspired by science and technology.
We sponsored a bus for the school class to ensure the students could travel safely and comfortably to and from the fair. Additionally, all participating students received cool Sasol T-shirts to boost team spirit and foster a sense of community.
The IdeenExpo offered a diverse program ranging from interactive workshops and exciting lectures to impressive live shows. The event aims to inspire young people to pursue careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields and give them insights into future-oriented professions. It was the perfect opportunity to dive into the world of science and technology and discover new, innovative ideas. In line with the event’s motto “Just do it!” we explored various activities, such as soldering solar-powered lamps, picking locks, and making jewelry, hand soap, and sandpaper.
“We recognize the IdeenExpo as the perfect event to demonstrate our commitment to both students and our own apprentices. It is a fantastic opportunity to inspire young minds, develop future talent, and showcase the exciting career possibilities at Sasol,” said Dietmar Gehle, VP of Operations Europe.
We reflect on an inspiring and educational day, thrilled with the many impressions and experiences we gathered together at the IdeenExpo. The day itself was engaging, and we also used the bus ride to converse with students and teachers, which was very well received. Both teachers and students provided positive feedback and were grateful to have participated.
We all agreed that this event significantly contributes to fostering collaboration with schools. Therefore, we are enthusiastic about not only repeating this event in the future but also extending our collaboration to further enrich our partnerships with schools.
“We were particularly impressed by how the apprentices from ‘NORDZUCKER’ vividly illustrated the process of extracting sugar from beets on a miniature scale. This inspired us to initiate a similar training project and visualize our own manufacturing processes,” said Boie Witt, Supervisor of Apprentices.
“What a day, what an abundance of impressions – simply amazing! Thank you so much for this opportunity!” expressed Stephanie Geschke, Teacher at GMS am Hamberg.
