As part of Our Promise to Society, Sasol aims to be a catalyst for positive change and plays a crucial role in the socio-economic development of the communities where we operate. We have embraced the concepts of community Philanthropic Giving, Employee Volunteering, and Financial Contributions, integrating them into our Corporate Social Investment approach across the Group, known as Sasol for Good (SFG). For Sasol to deliver on its Social Value Strategy it would be necessary to enable and mobilise employees to become actively involved in society through SFG.
Skilled Volunteering and Employee Giving
SFG enables and promotes employee volunteering which consists of financial contributions, volunteering of time and skills with the use of 40 hours of Volunteer Leave per annum.
Through our give as you earn (GAYE), or payroll giving opportunity, employees are encouraged to contribute monthly to a beneficiary or cause of their preference, which Sasol will match up to R400 per month.
We also encourage employee fundraising and match funds raised up to R10,000. These efforts speak to SFG, a name that symbolises our good corporate citizenship agenda to consistently be a good neighbour to our stakeholders particularly our host communities.
Community Development
At SFG, we serve as a strategic platform to connect employee-driven initiatives with broader community development programmes, such as supporting orphans and vulnerable children through care and support initiatives and feeding schemes creating a unified approach to corporate social responsibility.
Through payroll giving, employees contribute to NGOs that align with Sasol’s community development goals, which addresses critical issues such as Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF), education, and environmental sustainability, thus positioning our organisation as a credible stakeholder partner.
NGO Capacity Building Programme
Our Capacity Building Project equips Non-Profit Organisations (NPOs) within our fenceline communities to meet the high standards set by the Department of Social Development to qualify for funding and for inclusion as a beneficiary of SFG programmes and campaigns.
By offering extensive training, we bolster the capacity of NPOs to fulfil their mission and vision. To date, our programme has provided compliance support to NGOs across Secunda, Sasolburg, and Ekandustria.
Community Support and Philanthropy
At Sasol, we CARE deeply for our people, planet, and communities. Our global employee volunteer programme, SFG, showcases our commitment to philanthropy by encouraging employee giving, supporting charities, and facilitating donations.
Through payroll giving and fundraising efforts, we enable our employees to contribute to NGOs, helping them achieve their mission and positively impact our communities.
