No passado sábado, dia 23 de Agosto de 2025, a Sasol em Moçambique regressou, pelo quarto ano consecutivo, à Vila de Quissico, distrito de Zavala, província de Inhambane, para marcar presença como patrocinadora oficial do Festival da Timbila – M’saho 2025. O evento reuniu uma vasta moldura humana e fez ecoar, para além da alta ressonância inconfundível da Timbila em fusão com outros instrumentos da tradição chope, a riqueza da gastronomia local e o vigor do turismo da região.
“Voltar a Quissico é regressar a um lugar onde o som da Timbila não é apenas música: é a voz de um povo. É memória, é identidade, é um testemunho vivo da tradição chope, reconhecida pela UNESCO como Património Cultural Imaterial da Humanidade”, afirmou Francisco Augusto, Vice-Presidente de Operações e Manutenção da Sasol.
O festival voltou a reunir centenas de pessoas, confirmando-se mais uma vez como um dos maiores momentos de celebração da cultura chope e de promoção do turismo cultural em Moçambique.
Na ocasião, o Governador da Província de Inhambane, Francisco Pagula, destacou a importância da parceria: “Queremos expressar o nosso profundo agradecimento à Sasol pelo apoio contínuo a iniciativas culturais da nossa província e do país. Esta colaboração não apenas valoriza a Timbila, como também fortalece o orgulho da nossa identidade e projecta Inhambane como destino cultural de referência em Moçambique.”
Da comunidade, Jéssica Tárcia, residente em Quissico, partilhou: “Para nós, este festival é muito especial. Sentimo-nos felizes e honrados por ver empresas como a Sasol apoiarem a nossa cultura. A Timbila é a nossa raiz e cada edição faz com que a nossa tradição ganhe ainda mais força.”
Sasol Backs Timbila Festival in Quissico for the 4th Consecutive Year
On Saturday, 23 August 2025, Sasol Mozambique returned for the fourth year running to Quissico, in Zavala district, Inhambane province, as the official sponsor of the Timbila Festival – M’saho 2025. The event brought together a large audience and celebrated the unmistakable resonance of the Timbila, blended with other instruments of the Chope tradition, alongside the richness of local gastronomy and the growing potential of cultural tourism in the region.
“Coming back to Quissico is to return to a place where the sound of the Timbila is not just music: it is the voice of a people. It is memory, identity, and a living testimony of the Chope tradition, recognised by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity,” said Francisco Augusto, Sasol’s Vice President for Operations and Maintenance.
The festival once again drew hundreds of participants, consolidating its status as one of the most significant celebrations of Chope culture and as a platform for promoting Inhambane’s cultural tourism.
Speaking at the event, the Governor of Inhambane Province, Francisco Pagula, praised the long-standing partnership: “We extend our deep appreciation to Sasol for its continued support of cultural initiatives in our province and across the country. This collaboration not only enhances the value of the Timbila but also strengthens pride in our identity and positions Inhambane as a leading cultural destination in Mozambique.”
From the community, Quissico resident Jéssica Tárcia reflected on the importance of the festival: “For us, this festival is very special. We feel proud and grateful to see companies like Sasol supporting our culture. The Timbila is our root, and with each edition we feel our tradition becoming even stronger.”
