Since 2022, our Sasol Andrew Mapheto franchisee has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to community upliftment in Tembisa and the surrounding areas. The franchisee has actively participated in Sasol’s Friendly Neighbour Scorecard initiatives and has continued to support a range of projects aimed at improving the lives of local residents.

A key highlight of this partnership includes the donation of approximately 1,000 school uniforms to learners from schools in and around Tembisa. This initiative has helped to ease financial pressure on families while ensuring that learners are able to attend school with dignity and confidence. Supporting access to education remains a core priority for Sasol, as we recognise its role in enabling long-term opportunity and development.

At Sasol, we are committed to building and strengthening the communities around our operations through meaningful, sustainable partnerships. The Sasol Friendly Neighbour Programme is one of the ways we bring this commitment to life, enabling Sasol Energy and our franchise partners to work together to respond to the needs of communities surrounding Sasol Convenience Centres (SCCs).

Through this programme, franchisees identify local community development opportunities based on the lived realities within their areas of operation. Sasol then provides support through a 50% co-funding matching grant, enabling the joint implementation of projects that deliver lasting impact in key focus areas such as education, health, skills development, and community welfare. This shared-value approach ensures that interventions are both relevant and sustainable.

Sasol em Moçambique Advances Technical Capability Through Geoscience Skills Development Workshop

Sasol em Moçambique hosted the Geoscience Skills Development Workshop from 20 to 24 April 2026, reinforcing its commitment to building technical capability, enabling skills transfer, and advancing national talent development in line with its licence-related training obligations. The programme brought together geoscience practitioners, subject-matter experts, leadership, and early-career engineers within an integrated learning and development environment.

Delivered over five days, the workshop combined classroom-based technical sessions, hands-on workstation training, and field-based learning, ensuring a balanced approach between theory and practical application. Key modules included seismic interpretation, wireline logging tools, petrophysics, shallow hazards analysis, seismic acquisition and processing, as well as geological and geophysical workstation capabilities. All content was tailored to Mozambique’s exploration context, enabling participants to apply insights directly to current and future upstream activities.

A key highlight of the programme was the leadership engagement held on 21 April, during which Sasol officially launched the ENH Engineers Skills Development Programme under Operations. As part of this initiative, seven engineers from Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH) were formally onboarded into a structured development programme. This milestone reflects tangible progress in delivering on Sasol Mozambique’s licence-related training commitments, while strengthening its long-standing partnership with ENH in support of localisation and national capability development.

The workshop also marked the integration of Subsurface Engineers-in-Training (EITs) into Sasol’s geoscience learning ecosystem.
Sasolburg, Free State – Sasol, in partnership with the Department of Basic Education, has launched a comprehensive oral health campaign in Zamdela, Metsimaholo. The Sasol School Oral Health Campaign commenced on 8 April and will run until 29 May 2026.

Over the eight-week period, the programme will reach approximately 8 000 learners from Grade R to Grade 3 across 11 primary schools. The initiative forms part of Sasol’s broader commitment to supporting health and education in the communities in which it operates.

The campaign combines preventative health services with educational interventions. During school-based sessions, learners are taught about the importance of oral health and the daily habits required to maintain healthy teeth and gums. To reinforce these lessons, each learner receives age-appropriate educational material on oral health, as well as a toothbrush and toothpaste.

In addition to awareness education, preventative health support is provided through basic oral health screening. Learners identified as requiring further medical attention are referred to appropriate health services, helping to ensure that emerging oral health issues are addressed early.

According to Dr Nontokozo Xaba, Manager: Sasolburg and Ekandustria Regional Corporate Social Investment Execution, Sasol is cognisant of the significant barriers to healthcare faced by many children. Children in many communities face limited access to preventive services such as oral health education, oral hygiene support and basic health screening. “These barriers can indirectly negatively impact school attendance, learning ability and overall wellbeing. The Sasol School Oral Health Campaign, through our implementing partner, Starfish Greathearts Foundation, aims to address these challenges by delivering health support interventions directly within schools, ensuring that children receive preventative care and health education in a safe and accessible environment”, said Dr Xaba.

Through this campaign, Sasol and the Department of Basic Education aim to promote lifelong healthy habits, support learner wellbeing and contribute to improved educational outcomes in the community around Sasol operations.

Sasolburg, Free State – Sasol is investing in significant infrastructure upgrades in the Metsimaholo Local Municipality to improve road infrastructure and enhance community safety in Sasolburg and Zamdela through effective streetlighting.

In delivering on its promise to society, to be a catalyst for positive change that drives shared socio-economic value, Sasol implements a range of social impact programmes. The Roads Rehabilitation and Repair Programme responds directly to concerns identified in Sasol’s 2024 baseline study, which found that road quality is the most pressing infrastructure challenge in Metsimaholo.

According to Ms Gao Mothoagae, Sasol Vice President: Corporate Social Investment and Sasol Foundation, the company has invested more than R54,6 million in critical road repairs in Metsimaholo between 2021 and 2026, but significant needs remain. “This programme marks a shift from once-off, ad hoc repairs to a more structured, multi-year rehabilitation approach that supports longer-term impact. The focus is not only on addressing existing damage, but also on preventative maintenance that helps extend the lifespan of the roads,” she said.

Upgrades underway on Somerspost Road in Zamdela as part of Sasol’s infrastructure investment in Metsimaholo.

The current programme will run until June 2027. To date, around 40 km of roads have already been repaired, including:

Sasolburg Marathon Route – 21,1 km pothole repairs

Sasol peripheral roads – 14 km pothole repairs

Hospital Road – rehabilitation of 200 m dual carriageway

Bergius Road – 1 km rehabilitation

Somerspost (east section) – 1 km rehabilitation and fog spray seal

Zamdela Cemetery Road – 500 m reconstruction

From a safety perspective, better roads support safer travel, fewer accidents and less damage to vehicles. They also improve access to essential services such as healthcare, education and emergency response, directly affecting people’s quality of life. From an economic perspective, reliable road infrastructure supports local businesses, logistics and commuting, which in turn can encourage investment and job creation.

In addition, Sasol is using this programme to support local economic empowerment. A B-BBEE service provider was appointed, with emphasis on local companies identified through platforms such as the Linkage platform and the local business forum. The programme also creates job and skills development opportunities for local beneficiaries, including young people who have participated in the Sasol’s Bridge to Work programme.

In response to rising safety concerns and crime trends in Metsimaholo, Sasol is improving streetlighting through the replacement of faulty high-pressure sodium streetlights with energy-efficient solar LED units on existing poles, as well as the installation of new poles and solar streetlights in high-risk, poorly lit areas where infrastructure is non-functional or absent. To date, 116 lights have been installed on DF Malan Road, 16 near Fezi Ngubentombi District Hospital, seven at the fountain circle at the entrance to Sasolburg, and 18 lights with poles in Zamdela.

The road and streetlighting projects form part of one of Sasol’s corporate social investment focus areas: improving access to sustainable, quality community infrastructure through strategic partnerships.

INVESTING IN SPORTS TO PROMOTE SOCIAL COHESION

Over the last five (5) years, Sasol has established itself as a key player in the development of sport in Mozambique, contributing to social cohesion within communities and to the wider uptake of various sports, particularly basketball and football.

This initiative extends across the whole country, with a particular focus on communities surrounding its operations. With an investment of 300,000 US dollars, Sasol has, for example, enabled the construction of the Vilankulo Arena, a key venue for hosting the 2022 African Beach Soccer Nations Cup (CAN) in Vilankulo. In addition, Sasol has invested over 38 million Meticais in the development of basketball over the last five years.

Community football has also received special attention. A total of 53 teams from the communities of Govuro and Inhassoro received full sets of professional kit, including shirts, goalkeeper gloves, stopwatches and whistles.

Sasol Invests in the Rehabilitation of Inhassoro Community Radio

Sasol on Thursday, 14 May 2026, witnessed the laying of the foundation stone for the rehabilitation of the Inhassoro Community Radio (RCI), in an initiative aimed at strengthening local communities’ access to information, civic education and community communication. The RCI, managed by the Instituto de Comunicação Social (ICS), also plays an important role in disseminating public information and promoting social mobilisation within communities.

The infrastructure suffered significant damage as a result of extreme weather events, including cyclones that have affected the region in recent years. As part of the intervention, which is financed by Sasol, the perimeter wall and the main building will be rehabilitated. The facility will also be equipped with furniture and studio equipment to improve the radio station’s technical and operational conditions, ensuring a more efficient and higher-quality communication service for local communities.

Speaking during the foundation stone-laying ceremony, Sasol Mozambique’s Social Investment and Community Relations Manager, Arcênio Nhabangue, said the initiative represented an investment in strengthening local communities through communication.

According to Arcênio Nhabangue, community radio continues to be an essential tool in bringing information closer to people, particularly in areas where access to other forms of media remains limited. He added that the rehabilitation would restore to the community an active platform that is accessible, local and dedicated to serving the population.

The Administrator of Inhassoro District, Fernando Doda Muzobingua, in turn highlighted the importance of radio in promoting community participation and disseminating information of public interest, stressing that the project would strengthen the link between institutions and local communities.

Meanwhile, the ICS Delegate in Inhassoro, Hermínio Nhanombe, said the rehabilitation of the radio station marked an important milestone for the institution’s professionals, as it would create better working conditions and contribute to staff motivation. He explained that employees had been carrying out their duties under precarious conditions and that, once the works are completed, they would benefit from a safer, more dignified and suitable working environment.

Lucas Baquete, a member of the Inhassoro community, said the radio station plays a fundamental role in the daily lives of local people, particularly in disseminating information on health, education, cyclone warnings and community activities. He also expressed satisfaction at the start of the rehabilitation works.

The implementation of the initiative will be led by ForAfrika, a Sasol partner in the execution of several community projects.

The laying of the foundation stone for the rehabilitation of the RCI reinforces Sasol’s continued commitment to sustainable development and to strengthening access to information in the communities where it operates.

A joint planning committee was established in advance to support a coordinated approach and ensure meaningful community engagement.

The involvement of municipal leadership, including the Office of the Executive Mayor, reinforced the importance of the initiative and strengthened the impact of the safety awareness message.
Importantly, the session extended beyond pipeline safety. By incorporating perspectives from disaster management, fire and rescue services, and environmental teams, the programme delivered a more integrated approach to community safety and preparedness.

Community awareness initiatives of this nature play a critical role in preventing incidents before they occur. By equipping residents with relevant knowledge and encouraging responsible behaviour, they contribute to a shared understanding of risk and collective accountability.

The success of the session highlights the value of proactive engagement and partnership. Sasol will continue to roll out similar initiatives across its operational footprint to ensure that communities remain informed, prepared and supported.

António Madeira, President of the LMB, highlighted the importance of corporate backing for the sport. “Events funded by Sasol ensure the sustainability of basketball in the country and are an example of responsible corporate citizenship,” he said.

Echoing this sentiment, Nacir Carimo, Director of the District Service for Education, Youth and Technology in Inhassoro, said: “This programme, supported by Sasol Mozambique, is helping to expand sports education at district, provincial and national levels. We are grateful to Sasol for walking with us towards a brighter future, where young people engage in healthy activities like basketball.”

Alfredo Lopes, President of the Provincial Basketball Association, also praised Sasol’s commitment, noting that a portion of the support given to the LMB is specifically channelled to Inhambane.

For the young athletes, the tournament was both inspiring and formative. Shaquira Nagy, a female participant, said: “This 3×3 tournament has given us an incredible opportunity to showcase our talent, gain experience and believe that we can go further in basketball. Initiatives like this motivate us to keep training and to dream big.”

Sérgio Jossias, a male competitor, added: “The tournament brought a new energy to basketball in our community. It gives us a chance to compete in a structured and fair environment, learn from one another, grow as athletes and strengthen teamwork and unity among young people.”

Since the partnership began in 2022, approximately 480 young people, an equal number of boys and girls, have benefited directly from Sasol’s initiatives across Vilankulo, Inhassoro and Govuro, reinforcing the company’s commitment to developing sports and nurturing local talent.

Sparks of hope and possibility lit up Newton Pre-Vocational Technical School on Friday, 6 March 2026, as Sasol Energy’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) team joined learners for a memorable Back to School handover. With new shoes laced and school bags slung over shoulders, the day marked more than just the start of a school year, it was a celebration of dignity, opportunity, and the power of education to transform lives.

As part of the Department of Electricity and Energy (DEE) Ministerial Back to School Campaign, Sasol donated 400 pairs of school shoes and 400 school bags to learners, easing the financial burden on families and ensuring that every child can step into the classroom with confidence.

The event was filled with excitement and gratitude, as learners experienced firsthand the impact of community support. For many, the donation will make a meaningful difference in their daily routines, reinforcing the message that their education matters.
