Sasol Delivers New Batch of Cattle to Support Livestock Development in Govuro
Sasol delivered 112 heifers to nine beneficiary groups from the communities of Chimunda and Mazino at the end of September 2026, benefiting about 250 families. The initiative, which is part of the Cattle Development Programme under the small-scale projects of the Second Local Development Agreement (LDA II), aims to strengthen livestock farming, create income-generating opportunities and contribute to strengthening household livelihoods.
In addition to the delivery of the animals, the programme is based on the creation of productive assets that are expected to grow and generate value over time. The heifers provide the foundation for establishing and expanding herds, with male breeding cattle expected to be delivered at a later stage. Breeding will allow the herd to grow progressively and, through a rotation model, extend the benefits to other families in the participating communities.

The sustainability of the model is supported through beneficiary training, technical and veterinary assistance, and reproductive management. The aim is to equip local communities with knowledge of livestock management, disease prevention and animal care, creating the conditions for beneficiaries to develop livestock farming gradually and sustainably.
The Administrator of Govuro District, Natália Chivambo, highlighted the initiative’s contribution to strengthening livestock farming and household economies.
“The delivery of these animals under LDA II reinforces Sasol and the Government’s commitment to community development. It is important for beneficiaries to ensure the proper management and protection of these assets, particularly given the risks associated with the El Niño phenomenon, which could affect the availability of water and grazing for livestock in the coming months,” said Natália Chivambo.
For Arcênio Nhabangue, Sasol Mozambique’s Social Investment and Community Relations Manager, the investment aims to ensure that the programme’s benefits extend beyond the initial delivery of the animals.
“More than simply delivering animals, we are creating productive assets that can generate benefits over time. Our investment also includes training, technical and veterinary assistance and reproductive management, because the sustainability of the project depends on the beneficiaries’ ability to care for the animals and grow their herds,” he explained.

Samuel Muabsa, a beneficiary from the Chimunda community, expressed the community’s satisfaction and the beneficiaries’ commitment to caring for the animals.
“We are very happy to receive these animals. For the Chimunda community, they represent an opportunity to increase production and improve the living conditions of our families. We thank Sasol, the Government and AJOAGO for their support and are committed to taking good care of the cattle, with the support of the promoters, to ensure their reproduction and allow other families in the community to benefit in the future,” he said.
In Govuro, the cattle development programme supported by Sasol builds on the experience developed in the Pande-1 community and provides for expansion to Chimedje, Mazino 1, Mazino Sede, Mucumbudji and Nasso. The company also supports goat farming initiatives in the district, contributing to the diversification of economic activities and household income sources.
The intervention is part of LDA II, through which Sasol, in partnership with the Government and communities, supports projects identified according to local priorities, with a focus on economic development and strengthening productive capacity.
