The International Day of Women and Girls in Science (IDWGS) is a global observance established by the United Nations to highlight the vital role women and girls play in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Celebrated annually on 11 February, the day seeks to address the persistent gender gap in STEM fields and promote equal access to education, career opportunities, and leadership roles for women. The 2025 theme, “Imagine a World with More Women in Science,” aims to inspire young women, amplify the contributions of female scientists, and encourage policies that drive gender equality in STEM.

In Qatar, the 2025 event was observed on 26 February in collaboration with UNESCO, Qatar University, and the Qatar National Commission for Education, Science, and Culture. It brought together industry leaders, educators, policymakers, and aspiring scientists to discuss challenges, share success stories, and explore initiatives supporting women in STEM. Dr Pat Skhonde, Senior Business Manager and Country Manager at Sasol Middle East and India, delivered the opening remarks, reaffirming Sasol’s commitment to fostering an inclusive future where women can thrive in STEM fields.

Sasol proudly partnered with Qatar University, UNESCO, and the Qatar National Commission for Education, Science, and Culture to celebrate this event. It reinforced the critical role of women in STEM and the need for greater inclusion in scientific research and innovation, aligning with Qatar National Vision 2030. As a key industry partner, Sasol remains dedicated to breaking barriers, creating opportunities, and supporting women in STEM through mentorship, education, and career development.
Together, we are shaping a more inclusive, innovative, and sustainable future for women in STEM fields and beyond.
