Sasol and NWU Vaal are hosting their annual Junior Basketball Tournament from 12 – 14 July 2019 at the Harry Gwala Multipurpose Sport Centre in Zamdela, Metsimaholo.
There are sides travelling to Metsimaholo from as far as Limpopo, and even a team from Mozambique will form part of the eight girls’ teams battling it out for the trophy. Among the 20 boys’ teams, competition is expected to be as strong.
Local basketball fans will not be disappointed this year. They can look forward to see girls’ and boys’ sides from Cedar Secondary School in Zamdela in action, while a boys’ side from Parys will also take to the courts. Apart from university teams from NWU Vaal, Wits and UJ will also compete.
Play will start at 17:00 on Friday afternoon and continue on Saturday at 08:00. The quarterfinals for boys will start at 08:00 on Sunday after which the semi-finals for the girls’ and boys’ sides will be played. The two final matches will be played on Sunday afternoon.
“Sasol proudly sponsors senior and junior basketball tournaments in Zamdela during the year in partnership with the NWU Vaal. Apart from giving local spectators a chance to see excellent basketball players in action, these events allow local talent to participate against some of the best players in the sport, gaining good game experience at every event,” said Zimbini Zwane, Sasol’s Sasolburg Operations Acting Vice President of Corporate Affairs.
