In November 2025, we partnered with the Childhood Cancer Foundation of South Africa (CHOC) to launch a Toy Drive aimed at bringing comfort and moments of happiness to children undergoing cancer treatment.

As always, Team Sasolburg and Natref Operations (SNO) responded with remarkable kindness and generosity. By 17 December 2025, more than 200 toys had been collected and handed over to CHOC, creating smiles, easing anxiety and offering precious moments of joy to young patients and their families during an incredibly difficult time.

Each toy represented more than a gift. It was a gesture of care, compassion and hope. The goal of this initiative was simple yet powerful: to put a smile on the faces of children facing cancer and to remind them that they are not alone.

Team SNO’s generosity, thoughtfulness and willingness to give made a real and lasting impact. We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who contributed and helped make this campaign such a meaningful success.

A message of appreciation from CHOC

CHOC shared their heartfelt gratitude:

Sasol’s caring act of kindness continues to bring joy, comfort and moments of normalcy to children undergoing cancer treatment.

For many of our young patients, a simple toy represents far more than a gift. It becomes a source of courage and emotional support during an incredibly challenging time. Through Sasol’s contribution, we created smiles, eased anxiety, and reminded our children and their families that they are not alone on their journey.

Your support enhances the psychosocial wellbeing of our beneficiaries and aligns with CHOC’s commitment to ensuring that no child faces cancer alone. We are grateful for your compassion and generosity. Thank you for standing with us and making a difference in the lives of children affected by cancer.

Spreading festive joy in Secunda

This spirit of employee giving continued in December. On Friday, 12 December, colleagues in Secunda hosted children from Janelle Huis, a shelter for vulnerable children in the Govan Mbeki Municipality.

Initiated by volunteers from the Sasol Junior Engineers Forum (JEF) and supported by fellow colleagues, the toy drive ensured that each child received a gift ahead of the festive season, offering a sense of joy, dignity and hope.

These initiatives reflect how our Corporate Social Investment (CSI) efforts are rooted in our community development strategy. We aim to uplift the quality of life in the communities where we operate by supporting programmes and services that drive sustainable, positive change.

Together, these acts of generosity show the powerful difference our people can make when they come together in the spirit of care, dignity and shared responsibility.

Sasolburg – Sasol continues to prioritise the wellbeing of communities in the Free State and beyond through its Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) Response Plan. The launch of the Psychosocial Support Programme marks a key milestone in strengthening prevention, early intervention, and psychosocial support services, improving emotional wellbeing, trauma recovery, and mental health resilience across its fenceline communities.

In alignment with South Africa’s international 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children, Sasol introduced its Psychosocial Support Programme in the Sasolburg region on 3 December 2025. “We acknowledge that GBVF is a major challenge in the Free State. The Sasol Psychosocial Support Programme provides enhanced psychosocial support throughout affected communities,” said Gao Mothoagae, Sasol’s Vice President: CSI and Sasol Foundation

As part of the programme’s launch, Sasol is activating the “Sasol For Good GBVF Awareness Campaign” – an employee-driven volunteer initiative focused on increasing awareness of psychosocial support services available to community members. Volunteers will distribute informational leaflets designed to educate, empower, and reinforce prevention messaging, mobilising community understanding of available support pathways and encouraging early access to psychosocial assistance.

The Programme

The Psychosocial Support Programme was informed by a comprehensive baseline study, which included consultations with community members, non-profit organisations (NPOs), social workers, Thuthuzela Care Centres, SAPS Victim-Friendly Units, and other key service providers.

The study identified several critical challenges:

Limited access to trauma counselling and psychological support, particularly for GBVF survivors, children, and vulnerable families;

Insufficient and inconsistent referral pathways among local NGOs, government departments, and service agencies;

High levels of emotional distress, anxiety, grief, behavioural challenges, and unresolved trauma;

Significant need for community-level early intervention and prevention-focused psychosocial services.

In response, Sasol has developed and invested in a flagship Psychosocial Support Programme, now rolled out in Sasolburg and Secunda. Graduate social workers have been appointed to strengthen service delivery and provide direct, community-based support.

In the Sasolburg region, five social workers will deliver trauma counselling and render emotional support, crisis intervention, individual and family support sessions, mental wellness and psycho-education workshops, and referral services in close collaboration with government departments (DoH, DSD, NPA, DoJ, SAPS), local NPOs, and community structures. Dedicated community access points will be established in Sasolburg and Secunda, ensuring that beneficiaries receive support close to home in safe, accessible environments.

“The launch of the Psychosocial Support Programme reinforces Sasol’s commitment to improving emotional wellbeing, trauma recovery, and mental health resilience in Sasolburg and our surrounding communities. It strengthens local support systems and improves stakeholders’ capacity to respond to psychosocial challenges faced by GBVF survivors, children, and families,” said Mothoagae.

By encouraging collaboration among government departments, NPO partners, and service providers, Sasol aims to ensure the sustainable, effective implementation of psychosocial support interventions.

Aligned with the national 365 Days GBVF Response Framework, Sasol’s initiative promotes early intervention, mental wellness, trauma recovery, and long-term community resilience -demonstrating ongoing support for vulnerable individuals and a strengthened community-based response to GBVF.

The Sasol Foundation, in partnership with Kagiso Trust, the Department of Basic Education and the Department of Higher Education and Training, has launched the provisional stage of the 2025 National Skills Competition — a nationwide platform designed to showcase and strengthen the technical and vocational talents of South Africa’s youth.

“The Sasol Foundation has been a driving force behind the competition since 2018, investing in technical and vocational education to help close South Africa’s skills gap. By supporting learners, teachers and TVET students, Sasol is building stronger communities and contributing to the country’s future workforce,” said Tshamani Mathebula, Head of the Sasol Foundation.

This crucial stage of the competition brings together learners, teachers and TVET college students from across all nine provinces as they showcase their technical and vocational skills in a wide range of disciplines. It represents an important milestone in identifying the country’s top technical talent, while giving participants the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities in real-world, industry-relevant tasks.

Provisional Rounds

The provisional rounds are the foundation of the National Skills Competition. They provide a platform for provincial champions, learners, teachers and TVET students to compete within their own regions before progressing further in their skills development journey.

By competing at this level, participants are not only testing their technical expertise but also building confidence, developing problem-solving abilities, and learning to operate under pressure, all essential qualities for success in the workplace and beyond.

“The provisional stage is where the journey begins for our participants. It is where they build resilience, showcase their creativity, and prove their readiness to be part of South Africa’s skills revolution. As Sasol Foundation, we believe in creating opportunities at every level, because that is how we transform potential into excellence,” said Ms Charlotte Mokoena, Sasol Executive Vice President: Human Resources and Corporate Affairs.

Competitors and categories

This year’s provisional competitions are open to:

Learners from technical schools across all nine provinces,

Teachers who play a critical role in shaping technical education, and

TVET college students from Centres of Specialisation.

Participants are competing in a variety of specialisations, including:

Automotive

Fitting and Machining (Fitter and Turner)

Welding and Metalwork

Electrical Power Systems

Electronics and Digital Systems

Bricklaying and Civil Construction

Plumbing and Civil Services

Woodworking and Rigging

Engineering Graphics and Design (EGD – Manual)

Computer-Aided Design (CAD)

Each of these categories reflects skills that are vital to South Africa’s economy, addressing critical needs in industries such as construction, energy, and manufacturing.

The inclusion of both learners and teachers in the provisional stage is a defining feature of the competition. Teachers are not only mentors but also participants in their own right, competing in specialised categories that highlight their technical knowledge and teaching capabilities.

Teacher Involvement

“The involvement of teachers is particularly important because they are at the heart of skills development. By recognising their role and showcasing their expertise, we are reinforcing the importance of strong technical education in schools and colleges,” explained Ms Gao Mothoagae, Sasol Vice President: Corporate Social Investment and Sasol Foundation.

At the heart of the provisional competitions is the focus on practical, hands-on skills. Tasks are drawn from real-life, industry-based scenarios, ensuring that participants are tested on the kinds of challenges they would face in the workplace. This approach strengthens the link between education and employment, helping to close the gap between what learners are taught and what industry requires.

The competition also aligns with national priorities by:

Supporting the three-stream model in education, which balances academic, technical/vocational, and occupational pathways.

Contributing to the National Development Plan 2030 goal of producing 30,000 artisans annually.

Sasol’s impactful Corporate Social Investment (CSI) programmes are dedicated to addressing pressing social needs in communities and enable economic inclusion.

These are based on key focus areas such as quality education, quality health, community infrastructure and environmental stewardship and Sasol for Good programmes.

Over the years, Sasol for Good has been donating essential services to school children and communities across the regions where Sasol operates, including Mozambique. The education support initiatives are aimed at improving the learning outcomes and the wellbeing learners.

In June, learners from eMdibini Combined Secondary School, a non- fee-paying school in Govan Mbeki Municipality, in Secunda, received the following donation from Sasol:

220 school bags for grade R to 3 learners

70 school uniforms

68 annual supply of personal hygiene packs to girls in grade 7 to 9

Other schools, such as Ekurhuleni Primary School and Ezibeleni School for Learners with Special Needs in Gauteng, have received second-hand furniture from Sasol.

Similar activities have also taken place around different communities in Secunda and Sasolburg, in the Free State province. The Sasolburg and Natref Operations recently donated 126 winter school uniforms to NGOs in the Metsimaholo Local Municipality, in the Free State.

At Qondulwazi Secondary School near Standerton, in Mpumalanga, learners were provided with sanitary towels, school uniforms, and backpacks ensuring that no learner is left behind due to a lack of basic resources.

By addressing both educational and health-related challenges, Sasol continues to make a lasting difference in the lives of learners, helping them overcome barriers to education and reach their full potential.

Through these efforts, Sasol strengthens its role as a responsible corporate citizen, committed to nurturing the potential of South Africa’s youth and contributing meaningfully to the future of the country.

As one of South Africa’s most prolific private investors in education and skills development across the education spectrum, Sasol’s supports initiatives from early childhood development to graduate development.

Some of the programmes include the participation of employees, through the Sasol for Good volunteering programme that encourages employees to get involved in their communities by volunteering their time, skills and resources.

Sasol’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiatives are dedicated to addressing critical social needs within the communities where the company operates. A key focus of Sasol’s community development strategy is ensuring a high quality of life for individuals, with particular emphasis on health and education. Through a variety of projects and partnerships, Sasol continues to make a meaningful impact on society, contributing to sustainable development and improving the well-being of local communities.

One of Sasol’s standout initiatives is the Sasol For Good Back-to-School Campaign, which aims to support learners from disadvantaged backgrounds who face significant challenges in accessing basic school necessities, particularly school uniforms. The financial burden of purchasing uniforms often leads to exclusion, low self-esteem, and diminished academic performance. Sasol recognises the critical role that education plays in breaking the cycle of poverty and empowering future generations. In addressing this need, Sasol’s Back-to-School campaign provides tangible support to learners, ensuring they are properly equipped to succeed in their educational journey.

Supporting Learners at Vusumuzi Primary School

One of the notable successes of the campaign has been Sasol’s contribution to Vusumuzi Primary School, located in the Siyathemba region of Dipaleseng Municipality. Sasol, alongside donations from its employees, provided school uniforms to Grade R and Grade 1 learners at the school. This initiative has been instrumental in addressing the financial constraints faced by parents and ensuring that approximately 582 young learners have the necessary resources to attend school confidently and feel included. By removing barriers to participation, Sasol helps nurture a sense of belonging and self-worth among these learners, which in turn boosts their academic performance and overall well-being.

Addressing Health Needs: Menstrual Health Support

In line with its commitment to holistic support, Sasol has also focused on improving the health and hygiene of young learners. As part of the Back-to-School campaign, Sasol provided a 12-month supply of sanitary towels to Grade 6 and Grade 7 girls at Vusumuzi Primary School. This thoughtful initiative ensures that girls do not miss school due to menstruation, a challenge that often leads to academic disruption and emotional distress. By prioritising menstrual health, Sasol helps promote gender equity in education, empowering girls to attend school regularly and participate fully in their learning experiences.

Extending Support to Other Schools

The Back-to-School Campaign is not limited to Vusumuzi Primary School. Other schools, such as Ekurhuleni Primary School and Ezibeleni School for Learners with Special Needs in Gauteng, also benefited from Sasol’s contributions. These schools received second-hand furniture from the demolition of Mining’s Brandspruit Hostel, medical consumables, school shoes, school bags, stationary and 12-month supply of sanitary towels. By repurposing materials and ensuring that educational institutions are better equipped, Sasol is helping to create conducive learning environments where students can thrive. The Back-to-School drive will culminate in a distribution of donations to schools in the Govan Mbeki and Lekwa Municipalities, ensuring that even more learners benefit from Sasol’s support as they embark on their educational journeys.

Sasol’s Corporate Social Investment initiatives, particularly the Back-to-School campaign, reflect the company’s ongoing commitment to building stronger, healthier, and more educated communities. By addressing both educational and health-related challenges, Sasol continues to make a lasting difference in the lives of learners, helping them overcome barriers to education and reach their full potential. Through initiatives like these, Sasol is not just investing in the present but also sowing the seeds for a brighter, more equitable future.

Sasol For Good Volunteers Impact 881 Childline-Supported Families Bringing Food and Economic Relief on Mandela Day

This Nelson Mandela Day, Sasol for Good, our Employee Volunteering and Financial Contribution programme, a name that symbolises our good corporate citizenship agenda to consistently be a good neighbour to our stakeholders particularly our fenceline communities, partnered with Childline to address food security in child-headed households, foster homes and among the elderly who were in need.
